Biography
Dr. Omar Wever-Pinzon is an esteemed cardiologist specializing in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. Board-certified in this field, Dr. Wever-Pinzon has extensive experience in the evaluation and management of patients with complex heart conditions, including cardiomyopathy, advanced heart failure, and the use of mechanical circulatory support devices such as durable LVADs and temporary support devices.
Dr. Wever-Pinzon received his medical degree from the Universidad de Panama and completed rigorous training in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology through prestigious programs at the University of Utah and New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University. Prior to joining the University of Miami, he served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah, where he also founded and directed the Inherited/Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Program.
With research supported by NIH/NHLBI and VA grants, Dr. Wever-Pinzon’s work focuses on advancing our understanding of cardiac failure, myocardial recovery, and the application of advanced cardiac support technologies. He has served as a principal investigator in numerous clinical trials, contributing to new therapies for heart failure and genetic cardiomyopathies.
Dr. Wever-Pinzon is passionate about medical education, mentoring fellows and residents, and sharing his knowledge through lectures on advanced heart failure management and echocardiography. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and remains dedicated to advancing the field of cardiovascular medicine.
