Michel Velez, MD

Dr. Velez is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine. He earned his medical degree from Universidad del Norte in Colombia. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Palm Beach campus, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Jackson Memorial Hospital through the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Fellow

Dr. Velez has held multiple academic and leadership roles throughout his career. He served as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine, practicing in Orlando, Florida, as part of Florida Cancer Specialists in collaboration with the Sarah Cannon Research Institute at the UCF Cancer Center. He served as Medical Director of the Michael & Diane Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, where he also directed the Hematology-Oncology Clerkship for the University of Miami residency program.

Previously, Dr. Velez practiced at Memorial Cancer Institute in Hollywood, Florida, where he served as Medical Director of Quality Initiatives and Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Dr. Velez has a strong background in clinical research, with a focus on the molecular basis and treatment of solid tumors, particularly breast cancer. He has served as both principal investigator and sub-investigator in clinical trials through the Office of Human Research at Holy Cross Hospital and Memorial Cancer Institute. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he is a frequent speaker at national and international scientific meetings.
