About Joao Roberto Breda
Biography
Joao Roberto Breda, M.D., is a cardiac surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he joined the faculty in September 2020.
Dr. Breda earned his medical degree from ABC Medical School in São Paulo, Brazil, and completed his general surgery residency there before completing advanced training in cardiothoracic surgery at the Federal University of São Paulo. From 2014 to 2020, he served as Director of the Heart Transplant Program at the Federal University of São Paulo.
A highly skilled cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Breda has expertise in lead extraction procedures, the surgical and interventional management of coronary artery disease, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). His clinical interests also include general cardiac surgery, the surgical treatment of advanced heart failure, and pulmonary endarterectomy. He provides comprehensive care for patients with complex cardiovascular disease and actively participates in multidisciplinary, heart team–based decision making to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
In his academic role, Dr. Breda is committed to surgical education and mentorship, dedicating himself to the training of future surgeons and contributing to the advancement of cardiovascular surgery through teaching and clinical scholarship.
