Biography

A specialist in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, Hilda Capo, M.D., is world-renowned for her expertise in strabismus and adjustable sutures and embodies the consummate strabismus surgeon. As a pioneer in identifying the anesthetic agent’s role in the onset of double vision after cataract surgery, her landmark articles on vertical strabismus after cataract extraction, publications on strabismus surgery outcomes of adult-onset esotropia, surgery after glaucoma implants and retinal detachment repair, strabismus secondary to thyroid eye disease and OCT measurements of muscle insertions have had a tremendous impact in the field of strabismus. Her valuable contributions have been acknowledged by the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Senior Achievement and Secretariat Awards and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Honor Award. Additionally, her training of over 175 residents and fellows, reaffirm her abilities as an academician, educator, and surgeon and exceptionally qualify her for this prestigious nomination. Dr. Capo was named to The Ophthalmologist Power List 2021.
