Born and raised in Miami, Florida. Dr. Edward Suarez, Jr. is proud to serve as an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Since 2009, he has committed much of his career to uplifting marginalized communities and those afflicted by mental health issues. Dr. Suarez obtained his Doctorate degree at Northwest University in Seattle, Washington. Working full-time as a clinician in mental health services while attending his graduate program allowed Dr. Suarez to acquire and exercise the founding principles of community psychology alongside the clinical applications of psychology. Prior to joining University of Miami, Dr. Suarez was the Director of the Lazarus Project at Camillus House, a county wide program built to engage and house individuals experiencing chronic homelessness and severe mental illness. Today, Dr. Suarez is a credentialed and attending psychologist for UHealth and Jackson Health systems. The pinnacle of his career thus far has been working at Florida’s first legal syringe exchange program (IDEA Exchange) and creating linkages in the community which benefit the lives of People Who Inject Drugs. Dr. Suarez is the Behavioral Health Director of IDEA Exchange at the University of Miami and is assisting in the expansion of syringe services across the state of Florida. Lastly, Dr. Suarez is married to his incredible wife, Angela and raising two children.
