Dr. Anna Katharina Junk, M.D. is a cataract and glaucoma specialist providing care at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the Miami Veterans Affairs Hospital. She is licensed in Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania and is available for video consultation in these states. Dr. Junk plays an integral role in ophthalmology resident teaching at the University of Miami. As a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Committee Glaucoma Panel, she was the lead author establishing the standard of care for Disinfection of Tonometers, an important patient safety standard to guide eye care professionals.

Dr. Junk’s current research team focuses on glaucoma pathophysiology, in particular identifying proteins and lipids that are biomarkers of different glaucoma types or may play a protective role in averting glaucomatous damage to the optic nerve. Her early research on radiation effects on the eye and the natural crystalline lens involved individuals who had been exposed to radiation in clinical, occupational, and environmental settings. She co-authored the findings of the Ukrainian American Chernobyl Ocular Study on the effects of low dose radiation exposure, which led European and U.S. governments to lower the dose limit for occupational exposure to radiation.
