Alan Ackermann, DO

Dr. Ackermann, is a board‑certified cardiologist at the University of Miami Health System with more than two decades of clinical experience. He practices a proactive cardiovascular approach, using advanced imaging and precision‑based technologies to identify individual risk early. His care emphasizes personalized nutritional and lifestyle strategies, and he applies evidence‑based medical therapies when necessary to help patients reduce the likelihood of future cardiovascular events.

Dr. Ackermann earned his BA in Economics from Tulane University and his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University. He completed his internship at Florida Hospital East Orlando and his Internal Medicine residency at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a cardiovascular research fellowship followed by a three‑year cardiovascular fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, where he was selected by his peers as Chief Fellow.

He spent more than a decade in private practice, including leading his own practice, before joining Memorial Healthcare System in 2019. His years caring for a diverse South Florida population strengthened his commitment to individualized, precision‑focused cardiovascular care, a philosophy that aligns closely with UHealth’s mission to deliver advanced, community‑centered heart care.

Dr. Ackermann also serves as Chair of the Advocacy Committee for the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, working closely with state legislators to advance policies that support cardiovascular patients and the clinicians who care for them.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys early‑morning workouts and has been a lifelong sports fan of all our South Florida teams, especially the Miami Hurricane and Miami Dolphins. True to his Colombian roots, he enjoys being an amateur barista.

He speaks English and Spanish fluently.
