Abdelrahman M. Elhusseiny, M.D., M.Sc., is an assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, part of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed fellowships in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Boston Children's Hospital/Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, and the University of Illinois Chicago, followed by a glaucoma fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. His clinical practice focuses on the medical and surgical management of adult and pediatric glaucoma and complex anterior segment disease.

Dr. Elhusseiny’s research focuses on adult and pediatric glaucoma and anterior segment disease, with particular interests in ocular perfusion and glaucoma, including peripapillary vascular imaging, dynamic retinal microvascular imaging, and population-based studies of vascular risk factors. His work also encompasses outcomes research, data science, and cost-effectiveness analyses in ophthalmology. He has authored more than 280 peer-reviewed publications and more than 20 book chapters, co-edited the textbook Childhood Glaucoma, and presented more than 320 abstracts at national and international scientific meetings. He is ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in the Elsevier-Stanford University Global Ranking of Scientists and serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including American Journal of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology Science.

Dr. Elhusseiny serves on several national committees, including the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) Public Information Committee and Research Committee, the American Academy of Ophthalmology Basic and Clinical Science Course Self-Assessment Committee, which he will chair beginning in January 2027, and the IRIS Registry Analytic Consortium. His honors include the American Academy of Ophthalmology Secretariat Award (2025 and 2026), the Academy Achievement Award, the Pediatric Glaucoma and Cataract Family Association Award, the ASCRS Resident Excellence Award, and numerous institutional and national academic achievement awards.
